Hamlet To Air On Christmas Day
Filed in: News. Author: Kelsey. Comment: Add a comment (0)

“We’ve flirted with it. Our production of Hamlet, with David Tennant, will be on television on Christmas Day. We were some way down the road with doing Hamlet as a live broadcast earlier this year, and I don’t think it’ll be long before we’re involved. It’s slightly more interesting and challenging for us, because we work on a thrust stage: a production set behind a proscenium arch lends itself easily to a flat screen.

David Tennant joins Simon Pegg in John Landis’ ‘Burke and Hare’
Filed in: News. Author: Kelsey. Comment: Add a comment (1)

If this is true, well then YIPPEE!!!

Director John Landis announced this weekend at the Spooky Empire conventions in Orlando that ‘Doctor Who’ would be joining ‘Tim Bisley’ for his new film Burke and Hare. David Tennant will have found life after his famed stint as everyone’s favorite doctor and joins Simon Pegg to share in the lead roles.

The film is about two 19th century grave robbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school. The screenplay was penned by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft. BloodyDisgusting

This would appear to be a remake of the 1972 film Horrors of Burke & Hare which itself was based on true events known as the West Port murders. Refer to the 1972 IMDB and Wikipedia links below for a detailed descriptions about the real events. In short, Hare’s wife ran a lodging house where Burke stayed. The Endinburgh medical school could only use bodies of deceased criminals and when they started running short on supply grave robbing increased. As patrons of the lodge passed Hare and Burke would sell the body to a Dr. Robert Knox in the school. Whenever a patron looked to be on their death bed they would accelerate the process. In all they murdered 17 people and were arrested. Hare testified against Burke who was hung and publicly dissected. His skeleton, death mask, and items made from his tanned skin are displayed at the college’s museum.

It looks from the remake listing as if Landis is going with a black comedy approach to the retelling of this story. Good luck with that.

We await further confirmation as of now, but this looks promising as is!

Speaking in Tongues Premiere

A plethora of stars including Dominic West and David Tennant attended the West End premiere of Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York’s last night (28 September, previews from 18 September).

The production marks a return to the West End stage for Life on Mars star John Simm (who also featured opposite Tennant in Doctor Who), who plays detective Leon Zat in Andrew Bovell‘s 1996 emotional thriller – which was subsequently made into the 2001 film Lantana.

The play centres on nine parallel lives – interlocked by four infidelities, one missing person and a mysterious stiletto – which are interwoven through a fragmented series of confessionals, interrogations and ‘split-screen’ scenes, all drawn together by the investigations of Zat.

The cast also features New Zealander Kerry Fox, Ian Hart (Backbeat) and Emmy Award-winner Lucy Cohu. Toby Frow, who directed Bovell’s Ship of Fools at Theatre 503 last year, directs.
