David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse Join ‘Fright Night’

Fans of the original Fright Night have to be geeking-out over Disney’s remake of the fang-tasticly fun 1985 vampire film. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision Blog, David Tennant (Doctor Who, pictured left) will play the overmatched vampire expert portrayed in the original by Roddy McDowall, and McLovin himself (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is on board as Evil Ed, the nerdy friend who finds himself vulnerable to the neighborhood blood-sucker. With paper-boy faced Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) set to star as the paranoid hero, and Colin Farrell cast as the neck-biter next door, director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) has a remake that just might not suck.

Do you like this casting as much as I do?

Sony Home Entertainment strikes UK deal for Retreat

Psychological thriller will star Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has taken UK rights to Retreat, a Magnet Films project set to star Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant.

Carl Tibbetts will make his feature directorial debut; Magnet’s Gary Sinyor produces.

Executive producers are David Frost & Michael Rosenberg.

The film is scheduled to shoot this summer in North Wales. The plot follows a couple who go to a remote island cottage to try to rebuild their marriage. Instead a stranger arrives on their doorstep with frightening news.

Dave G Bishop, Head of Acquisitions, Northern Europe, SPHE, said, “We’re excited to be working with Magnet Films on this fantastic project. Carl Tibbets has written a thrilling script that keeps you guessing to the very end and with such great British acting talent attached, we’re confident the film will be both a critical and commercial success.”

Gary Sinyor, Managing Director, Magnet Films, added, “Retreat has the potential to be not just a crowd pleaser, but also a critical success based on the intelligent page-turner of a script and the marquee cast.”

Doctor Who star David Tennant fails to make it in America

David Tennant, the former Doctor Who, has been told that his American television drama has been axed after one episode.

After failing to convince enough voters to back Gordon Brown with his election broadcast, David Tennant has suffered a further blow to his amour-propre.

The former Doctor Who hoped that a pilot episode of a legal drama called Rex Is Not Your Lawyer would be taken up as a series by NBC and it would turn him into an American television star as big as Hugh Laurie. Alas, NBC executives have quietly decided to shelve the project.

Tennant had played a lawyer who couldn’t appear in court because of panic attacks. The actor failed to make the first night of Hamlet in 2008, but a bad back rather than a panic attack was given as the reason.

Jonathan Miller, the polymath, said the RSC’s decision to give Tennant the title role amounted to “celebrity casting”.

Incredibly sorry David, but we look forward to seeing you in other projects!

Tennant makes movie debut in British rom-com

David Tennant long ago won the hearts of theatre audiences with a spate of laudable Shakespearean roles on the biggest British stages.

And when he turned his sights to television, he instantly amassed an avid following when he was cast as Doctor Who. Yet what has so far eluded the Scottish actor is a breakthrough role in a feature film. Now, that is set to change. Tennant, one of the most recognisable actors on the stage and small screen – he was named the most popular actor by the National Television Awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008 – has been cast in his first lead role opposite fellow Scot, Kelly MacDonald, who is a well-established face in Hollywood.
